Dialogue

If unlocking requirements are not met:

Gospel
...
Nowak
Hello.
Gospel
...
Nowak
...
I think it's just a statue.
Weird.

If unlocking requirements are met:

Nowak
...
This is miserable.
...
You know I'm actually envious of you.
You don't feel anything.
You don't think anything.
...
I wish I was like that.
Maybe I was y'know...
Before I was born.
God, was that a long time ago?
It doesn't even feel like that long ago.
...
Gospel
...
Nowak
I don't wanna be like this.
I don't...
...
I don't know what I want...
It's so scary to exist.
But I'm terrified of oblivion.
...
Gospel
...
Nowak
I... I want to be a baby again.
And weirdly, deep down, I feel like I will be again someday.
I don't want the world to make sense.
I just want to be happy in a blurry warm reality.
...
I wish I was just a cube...
A little cube that existed on an endless grid of white spaces.
And I would color those spaces, endlessly.
As I slowly rolled through this endless reality, I would love every moment of it.
And this love would never fade.
And that first colored space would fill me with as much joy as the thousandth, or the millionth, or the trillionth.
And once I colored so many spaces, a number so high no man could even comprehend, I would still be there as happy as the moment I began.
...
How absurd...
...to be anything at all.
...
...
*Nowak slumps next to the base of this statue*
*After some time, Nowak rises again and takes notice of the faded engraving at the base of the statue.*
Gospel
"One must imagine Sisyphus as happy."
Nowak
...
Heh.
What a stupid quote.

Tips

  • Gospel's inability to move or be healed makes them risky to bring into every battle. Picking and choosing when to bring them will allow them to be the most effective.
  • There is a well-known strategy called the Czechloop involving Gospel and the item Czech Hedgehog. By placing Gospel in front of an enemy, moving an ally or two next to Gospel, using Icon of Strength, and using an ability with the wrong pigment color. This will cause the user to be damaged, but because of Divine Blessing the damage goes to gospel which activates Czech Hedgehog, dealing 5 damage to the opposing enemy and 1 damage to the left and right party members. Because of Diving Blessing, the damage dealt to the left and right party members is instead dealt to Gospel, triggering Czech Hedgehog. This will continue until Gospel is dead, dealing up to 500 damage to the opposing enemy. This can be an effective way to take out bosses or minibosses that are troublesome, just be aware that doing this against a final boss will not give the Gospel unlock.

Trivia

  • Gospel is a statue.[1]
  • Gospel's face was inspired by the album cover of "Floral Shoppe" which depicts a bust of the Greek God Helios. Talia Mair has never listened to this album but sees the cover as a YouTube thumbnail a lot.[1]
  • Having a statue as a party member was inspired by a screenshot of Mason Lindroth's removed game "Fishing Vacation" that depicts a statuelike party member. Talia Mair has never played "Fishing Vacation" as it had been removed from the internet by the time Talia discovered it. There is a very real possibility that this "Fishing Vacation" party member that inspired Gospel is not actually a statue.[1]
  • Gospel doesn't move, everything else just moves around him. This is not Gospel's doing.[1]
  • Nowak's monologue while unlocking Gospel is a partial transcription of a monologue Talia Mair went on to her girlfriend Jaden while deep within a existential depression during the Summer of 2021.[1]
  • Thinking about Gospel is a waste of time, he doesn't think about you.[1]
  • The Icon for Inspire is supposed to represent a solar system[2]
  • Gospel is the oldest party member[3]
