The Ungod is a strong enemy that will only appear when summoned by a Wriggling Sacrifice in Hardmode. It resembles a six-fingered hand reaching down from the sky, wearing bronze ornaments.

Killing an Ungod before it flees is necessary in order to unlock Rags, and subsequently trigger the Emissary questline.

The Ungod is considered a Mini boss and awards the player 2 Treasure items upon its defeat

Tips

  • Being able to generate pigment, change pigment, or use purple offensively is very important since the Ungod will flee quickly
  • Due to the fact that it is possible to encounter multiple Wriggling Sacrifices, it's possible for multiple Ungod hands to spawn. It’s highly unwise to let this happen.
  • Most of the time it's ill advised to actively pursue Ungod as the two treasure reward is not worth it a lot of the time. However with the right party setup it can be done fairly easily.
  • Ungod will most likely always spend one turn performing Genesis, which is detrimental, but it is one turn of it not doing any damage, which can be helpful to keep in mind.

Trivia

  • Four silhouettes of structural hands of the Ungod are visible in the overworld of the Orpheum at all times. Rags mentions these silhouettes during her dialogue.[1]
  • The hands of the Ungod that are summoned by the Wriggling Sacrifice are utility hands. The Ungod also has structural hands that hold it above The Orpheum, and decorative hands that are so clad with jewelry they are effectively useless. [1]
  • The storm above The Orpheum is produced by the Ungod as a sort of "clothing".[1]
  • The "song" that causes the Music Man tumours is produced unintentionally by the Ungod. The "song" is intended to be a sort of communication with other far away Ungods.[1]
  • The Ungod also causes flesh to regrow; this is why many people come to worship the Ungod, in order to have their flesh grow back. If they stay around for too long however, they will eventually get Music Man tumours.[2]
  • The Ungod isn't aware that it is worshipped by humans. from the Ungod's perspective, humans are like stray cats bringing mice to the door.[1]
  • The Ungod is not actually a "god" of anything, just an immensely powerful creature that seems like a god to the denizens of purgatory, similar to how ants would perceive humans.[2]
  • The Ungod’s are often kinda dickheads to wildlife but some of them can have a kind heart.[3]
  • Ungod's Intelligence is comparable to a human but very intelligent in ways that wouldn’t be worthwhile to humans.[4]
