Almost all shop items are references to World War 1 and World War 2 era objects.

The contents of the ampoule are cyanide tablets. Like most start of combat pigment producing items it is based on medicine of some kind.
Atabrine upscaled.png Atabrine Mepacrine, also called by the trade name Atabrine, is a medication with several uses. It is related to chloroquine and mefloquine, it was quite common around Brutal Orchestra's time period, though it isn't used much due to the harmful side effects. Like most start of combat pigment producing items it is based on medicine of some kind.
Barely used gauze upscaled.png Barely Used Gauze A gauze is a thin transparent fabric of silk, linen, or cotton, often used to treat wounds. This was the first Shop item that Talia sprited.[1]
Blood bottle upscaled.png Blood Bottle Blood bottles were the antique versions of the blood bag commonly seen today, used for blood transfusion. Unlike most other pigment producing items it isn't based on a medicine, but still follows the medicine motive.
Certificate of exemption upscaled.png Certificate of Exemption Certificates of Exemption were documents written in order to not be drafted to fight in the war.

Fly paper upscaled.png Fly Paper Flypaper is a fly-killing device made of paper coated with a sweetly fragrant, but extremely sticky. Like most pigment essence items it follows the theme of being a "trap"
Glue trap upscaled.png Glue Trap Glue traps are trays coated with an extremely sticky adhesive. Often used to get rid of rodents, they are often seen as being very inhumane. Like most pigment essence items it follows the theme of being a "trap"
Lady pills upscaled.png Lady Pills "Lady Pills", is actually just an estrogen supplement, WW1-WW2 was a crazy time for the pharmaceutical industry and things like human hormones were becoming consumable in pill form[2]. Like most start of combat pigment producing items it is based on medicine of some kind.
Lucky helmet upscaled.png Lucky Helmet A world war 2 style helmet with what appears to be a bullet hole. it is based off a real World War 2 Helmet Talia owns. The real life helmet has a much smaller dent, that is likely not from a bullet.
Pep Powder upscaled.png Pep Powder This item is based on Pervitin, which where pills of Methamphetamine sold as energy enhancers.
Plaster cast upscaled.png Plaster Cast Plaster casts are made up of a bandage and a hard covering, usually plaster of paris. They allow broken bones in the arm or leg to heal by holding them in place.
Prosthetics upscaled.png Prosthetics Prosthetics, are an artificial body part, such as a limb as seen in the item. During WW1/WW2 a lot of soldiers came back with missing body parts, so a lot of prosthetics were made.
Recalled gas mask upscaled.png Recalled Gas Mask A gas mask that was commonly used in warfare during the time period. The quote being "Makes your lungs itchy" implies that it is based on Gas Mask that contained asbestos in their filter.
Safe and sound upscaled.png Safe and Sound A secure safe with a combination code. The code written on the side is the code to open the safe, alas the party members are kinda dumb and instead smash it open. This item was created after Talia spent over an hour trying to open a safe in Resident Evil 2 Remake only to discover the code was written on the side of the safe.
Soggy bandages upscaled.png Soggy Bandages Similar to Barely Used Gauze, although this one was maybe used a bit too much.
Splatter mask upscaled.png Splatter Mask A mask to protect the face, specifically against shrapnel. An earlier iteration of Roid's known as King Klot wore the Splatter Mask in the cancelled ItsTheTalia game Devour.
Spring trap upscaled.png Spring Trap A stereotypical mouse trap that uses a spring loaded mechanism in order to catch any rodent or otherwise. Like most pigment essence items it follows the theme of being a "trap".
Stolen gold upscaled.png Stolen Gold This item is based on the fact that in WW2 gold bricks made from tooth fillings, wedding rings and other jewellery smelted down, from Jewish people, by the Nazis.[3] The ghost seen in these items are supposed to signify the vile origin of them.[4]
Sulfa powder upscaled.png Sulfa Powder Sulfonamide drugs were the first broadly effective antibacterials to be used systemically, and paved the way for the antibiotic revolution in medicine.
Surrender upscaled.png Surrender A white flag, which is an internationally recognized protective sign of truce or ceasefire, and for negotiation.
Sweet heart upscaled.png Sweet Heart A heart locket with a picture of someone in it. Most likely based on photos of loved ones many soldiers had with them during the war.
Take a penny leave a penny upscaled.png Take a Penny, Leave a Penny "Take a penny, leave a penny" refers to a type of tray, dish or cup meant for convenience in cash transactions. A customer can put a penny in there if they don't want it, and someone in the future can take it if they are one cent short for example. "I only really recall take a penny leave a penny trays from when I was quite young since the penny was abolished in Canada in 2013. I’ve always been fascinated with them because they were something that existed only in my haziest memories." Talia[5]
Trench foot upscaled.png Trench Foot Trench foot is a type of foot damage due to moisture, which a lot of soldiers got during the days they had to sit in the trenches. If it got really bad it usually meant amputation was the only option.
Used band aids upscaled.png Used Band Aids Stereotypical band aids, these ones are used though.
Used needle upscaled.png Used Needle An antique syringe, this one is used though. During WW1, hundreds of soldiers were exposed to morphine due to being treated for injuries, and developed a crippling addiction.

Many were unable to return to family life or find work and wound up on the street.[6]

"This item is partially based on my time at Vancouver Film School which was located near the the Downtown East Side. Used needles were a common danger on the walks to and from the School to the point you’d get into a habit of watching your feet as you walked to avoid them." Talia[7]
Another dud upscaled.png Another Dud "Dud" when referring to firearms or explosive means that it failed to fire/explode.
Baltic Brine.png Baltic Brine It is named after the fact that a lot of chemicals were dumped into the Baltic sea, after WW1 and WW2 forever poisoning the water. An item submitted by Crysseil as part of the 2022 item contest. Originally it was pretty much the same except it was named "Paper Cup" instead, since the submitter wanted to follow the theme of a lot of shop items being trash.[8]

DDT upscaled.png DDT Originally used as a insecticide it became infamous for the various toxic effects it actually contains. The quote references a Color print magazine advertisement for Pennsalt DDT products, with the same catchphrase of "DDT is good for me", which is quite ironic in retrospective.

DumDum.png Dum-Dum Expanding bullets, also known colloquially as dumdum bullets, are projectiles designed to expand on impact. An item submitted by Henrique T L Crevatin as part of the 2022 item contest.
Ed's tags upscaled.png Ed's Tags Ed's tags refer to Eddie Slovik who was given the death penalty for desertion during World War 2.
Esoteric artifact.png Esoteric Artifact. A VHS tape, due to the fact that Brutal Orchestra takes place before the invention of VHS, it is called an "Artifact". This item was taken from the game Video Horror Society as a collaboration with Brutal Orchestra.
Expired medicine.png Expired Medicine A bunch of pills which are probably not safe to consume. Like most start of combat pigment producing items, it is based on medicine of some kind. An item submitted by Tairbaz as part of the 2022 item contest. It underwent no changes in the design process.
Extra stitches upscaled.png Extra Stitching An antique medical stitching kit.
Faulty land mine.png Faulty Land Mine A land mine that has failed to explode properly.
Forgotten pump.png Forgotten Pump A pump which seems to have been filled with blood rather than Gasoline. An item submitted by Owen Fitzgerald as part of the 2022 item contest.
Gentlemans gloves.png Gentlemen's Glove A pair of gloves fit for a gentleman. This is a reference to the game Hylics, as the main characters also wear similar gloves and snap. An item submitted by DiamondJub as part of the 2022 item contest.

Homeless Hotline.png Homeless Hotline At the end of World War 2, many soldiers lost family, jobs, and houses. Most of the time these news were delivered via a payphone.

The brewing homelessness crisis was only nearly averted by the booming post war economy.

Lil Smiley.png Lil Smiley A reference to Mickey Mouse themed Gas Masks that were produced during WW2. Originally envisioned to be a cult mask. An item submitted by Sulfur Cretin as part of the 2022 item contest.
Littering Leaflets.png Littering Leaflets A pair of various leaflets, notably all having stamps of all the pigment colors. An item submitted by Fiddox as part of the 2022 item contest. Originally envisioned to be torn up playing cards as a small jab at the deluge of card based mechanics in video games. [9]
Medical leeches upscaled.png Medical Leeches Leeches were very often used in medicine during the time, fell out of fashion with the advent of modern technology, however, still sometimes see some uses. A reference to Talia's grandmother being a hospital supplier during the former's youth. One of her key roles was to deliver live leeches to the hospital, Talia always begged her to sneak one home for her to see. Alas Talia has not seen a leech in person to this day.
Modern medicine upscaled.png Modern Medicine Depicts tools used to perform a lobotomy, which was considered modern at the time. It aimed to remove parts of the brain to alleviate various "mental ailments".

The Lobotomy was only banned in the 1970s.

"This item is intended to be the counterpart to the treasure item “Trepanation” as they are similar procedures developed at very different points in history. Lots of ugly stories throughout history of people poking around in brains they shouldn’t."[10]

Ol' stumpy upscaled.png Ol' Stumpy A bloody bone-saw, a tool which is self explanatory. Ol' Stumpy was the name of a bone saw that a first aid cub scouts camp leader proudly and sarcastically displayed at a summer camp Talia attended when she was young.

Prussian blue upscaled.png Prussian Blue A substance very similar to Prussian Blue paint was produced by the Zyklon B used in the gas chamber in World War 2 staining the walls blue. A lot of Beksinki’s work appears to be him processing World War II and living in the aftermath of it so he often uses Prussian blue to depict death/reaper like entities. The ghost seen in these items are supposed to signify the vile origin of them.[4]
Purple heart upscaled.png Purple Heart The Purple Heart is a United States military decoration awarded in the name of the President to those wounded or killed while serving. "If one more person asks me if this item is a reference to Isaac I’m going to start a fire at the SPCA and send the souls of the cute little dogs and cats to haunt them eternally." - Talia[11]
Roentgen rays upscaled.png Roentgen Rays "Roentgen Rays" is an older name for X-rays, named after Wilhelm Röntgen, the first man to produce them, The item's appearance represents the first medical X-ray photo ever taken, of Röntgen's wife Anna's hand.
Rorschach test upscaled.png Rorschach Test The Rorschach test is a projective psychological test in which subjects' perceptions of inkblots are recorded and then analyzed using psychological interpretation, complex algorithms, or both. The Rorschach test item's description is a reference to Fallout New Vegas.

SoapItem.png Soap? Human fat was used to produce soap in Gdansk during the War. It was never produced on an industrial scale like some rumors suggest, but any quantity is unforgivable.[13] The ghost seen in these items are supposed to signify the vile origin of them.[4]

Tape worm pills.png Tape Worm Pills The tapeworm diet works by swallowing a pill that has a tapeworm egg inside. When the egg eventually hatches, the tapeworm will grow inside your body and eat whatever you’re eating. The idea is that you can eat whatever you want and still lose weight because the tapeworm is eating all your “extra” calories, this comes with many potential side effects, and also you are deliberately putting a parasite inside your body.
The Masters Sickle.png The Master's Sickle A bloody sickle. The weapon used by the "dollmaster" monster in VHS[14], made as a collaboration between it and Brutal Orchestra.
Used dog tags.png Used Dog Tags Collecting dog tags that were previously owned by soldiers is a hobby. An item submitted by Tairbaz as part of the 2022 item contest. Originally envisioned as a gimp suit to explain the connection between Mordi and Zippers, the quote is a reference to DOOM.
Vowbreaker.png Vowbreaker A gold and a silver ring stuck together An item submitted by Mr. Man as part of the 2022 item contest.
Vyacheslavs Last sip.png Vyacheslav's Last sip A molotov cocktail. Named after Vyacheslav Molotov, who was responsible for the invention of the Molotov. A usable throwable weapon that is seen in VHS[14], made as a collaboration between it and Brutal Orchestra.
War Bond.png War Bond War bonds are debt securities issued by a government to finance military operations and other expenditure in times of war without raising taxes to an unpopular level. An item submitted by Tairbaz as part of the 2022 item contest. Originally this item was envisioned as being a "miniature shop"
You can do it upscaled.png You Can Do It! A play on the famous "We Can Do It!" wartime poster produced by J. Howard Miller in 1943 for Westinghouse Electric as an inspirational image to boost female worker morale. This image is a favorite of Talia's Mother, and she always has it around somewhere[15]

In a much much older version of Brutal Orchestra that Talia pitched during her time at Vancouver Film School the gilded mirror was the basis of the most common enemy type.

This super early version of the game played like a mix of punch out and pacific rim with a Bosch theme.[19]
